Our goal with this analysis is to not only tell you who the best players will be, but also tell you who most frequently exceeds their overall rank (boom players) and who comes up short the most frequently (weekly bust). We reviewed the season to identify players who have high boom rates and high bust rates. We are defining a 'boom week' as one where a player's position rank is much better than his overall average weekly rank. Mathematically, we are using 50% of his average rank. So a player with an average rank of 30 would need to be ranked Top 15 to be considered a boom week. Conversely, a bust week is one where a player's rank is numerically 50% higher than their normal weekly rank.

Joel Embiid had a weekly average center rank of #8 but he also had the highest rate of finishing significantly better than that. Out of 23 qualifying weeks, 10 were considered boom weeks. At the guard position, Stephen Curry was the leader in boom rate. Josh Jackson, in an average week, is the #59 forward but he also has the highest bust rate at the position. In his 25 weeks, 10 were bad, busts. The table below shows the player with the five highest boom and bust rates. The rank is based on the player's average position rank per week and not their season total fantasy points.
